Disappointing Effort Tightens NBL's Central Conference

January 3, 2015 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Windsor Express News Release

(WINDSOR, ON) The Windsor Express took a lashing in the middle quarters on Saturday night and were dropped by the London Lightning 107-85 at Budweiser Gardens.

Windsor (11-4) possessed a 26-23 lead after the first quarter, but a 23-10 run in the second quarter for the Lightning (11-6) put them ahead by 10, ending the half up 14 and controlling play with a 57-43 lead going into halftime.

London kept the pressure on in the third, increasing their lead to 28 after a 30-16 quarter, highlighted by a 19-8 run in the middle of that frame.

With the score 87-59 going into the fourth, the game was all but wrapped up, with the Express outscoring London 26-20 but it was too late.

"London came out and played us tough the whole game." said Express Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations, Bill Jones, "We weren't able to defend certain plays that we went over in practice, and we weren't able to block them on the offensive rebound."

The loss brings London to within one game of the first place Express, with Windsor possessing two games in hand.

One bright spot for Windsor was another strong performance from newcomer, Jamarcus Ellis, who - along with Quinnel Brown - led the team with 15 points.

Brown also had 9 rebounds.

"I'm happy with the way Jamarcus is playing." Jones stated postgame, "He's been practicing with us since the beginning, and stepped up in Ryan Anderson's absence".

Marvin Phillips (25 points/13 rebounds) and John Hart (24 points/7 rebounds) carried the load for London.

Windsor looks to rebound back home on Thursday, January 8th, when they welcome the Brampton A's to the WFCU Centre for a 7:00pm start.

The game features a tribute to the Windsor Ford V-8's, Canada's 1936 Olympic silver medal basketball team.
