June 15, 2004 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Joe Dillon, named PCL player of the week earlier in the day, hit for the cycle on a perfect 4x4 night as the Albuquerque Isotopes defeated first place Iowa 11-9 in front of 8,329 fans on Monday night.
Dillon recorded a single in the first inning, hit his 15th homer of the season in the second inning, notched a triple in the fourth, and a double in the sixth to become the second Isotopes player to hit for the cycle. Gerald Williams accomplished the feat on July 24 of last season against the New Orleans Zephyrs. The homer for Dillon was his seventh HR in the last six games.
Albuquerque jumped on the Cubs early, scoring five runs on four hits in the first inning, highlighted by Chris Aguila's fourth homer of the season. Iowa scored three runs in the top of the second, cutting the lead to 5-4 before Albuquerque responded with three of their own and an 8-4 lead. Derek Wathan added his sixth homer of the season in the fourth inning and Larry Sutton contributed two hits. Michael McNutt (2-1) earned the win allowing five earned runs over five innings of work.
The Isotopes pull to within 2.5 games of the first place Cubs with the series opening win and host game two of four Tuesday night. Michael Tejera (6-1) will make the start, with first pitch at 7:11 PM.
