Portland Beavers News Release

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Humberto Quintero had three hits and Freddy Guzman drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI double in the eighth inning as the Portland Beavers beat the Las Vegas 51s Monday night at Cashman Field, 4-2.

J.J. Furmaniak and Tagg Bozied added solo home runs for the Beavers, who had 14 hits and won their third straight game.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the eighth, the Beavers took the lead for good. Alex Fernandez led off the inning with an infield single to second, and with two outs, Guzman lined a double into the right field corner to drive in Fernandez.

Bozied's solo shot in the ninth gave the Beavers (31-34) a 4-2 lead.

The 51s rallied in the ninth to load the bases with one out on a hit and two walks by closer Brandon Puffer, who was making his first appearance since returning from San Diego on Monday. With one out, though, Jason Repko grounded into an inning-ending double play. It was Puffer's first save of the season.

Bart Miadich (3-4), assuming middle relief duties for the first time this season, picked up the win. Former Beaver Rodney Myers (4-1) got the loss.

Las Vegas (27-38) was the first on the board in the fourth, taking a 1-0 lead when Nick Theodorou scored on Rick Bell's soft single through the right side of the infield.

The Beavers responded in the top of the fifth when Ramon Vazquez lead off with a base hit followed by a double by Bozied. Quintero, who had two doubles, drove in Vazquez from third on a hard ground out to shortstop.

The 51s took a 2-1 lead on a solo home run by Daylan Holt in the fifth.

Furmaniak's home run, his 10th of the year with the Beavers, tied things at 2-2 in the top of the seventh.

Marty McLeary had a season-high seven strikeouts, allowing two runs after working 6.0 innings in the no-decision.

The series continues Tuesday night at 7:10 p.m.

NOTES: Quintero lengthened his hitting streak to seven games on Monday ... the Beavers left 12 men on base, tying their season high ... Bozied has faced only South Division teams this year ... it was the Beavers' fifth straight game with 10 or more hits ... Furmaniak has hit four home runs in the past four games. Bozied has four in his last five contests.
