Amarillo Dillas News Release
ABILENE, TX - The Amarillo Dillas used a pair of five-run innings in the first two frames to defeat the Coastal Bend Thunder on Monday night 14-1 at Scott Field. The win gives the Dillas their fifth win in the sixth game of their eight-game road trip.
Dillas starter Richard Jessup (2-1) got the win, allowing just six hits and one earned run while striking out three in seven-and-a-third innings. Thunder starter Toro Trevino (1-5) got the loss, allowing ten hits and eight earned runs before leaving in the second inning. Every Dillas batter scored a run, eight of the nine starters had multiple hits, Joaquin Rodriguez had five hits and Daryl Jones had five RBI in the effort.
Amarillo wasted no time in getting on the board as Rodriguez and Carlos Figueroa hit one-out singles in the first inning. Jones stepped up and powered a double to score both runners. Following a Stephen Douglas single, Alberto Cruz grounded out to score Jones. TJ Warren followed with an RBI single to score Douglas, while Warren crossed home following a stolen base and a Brian Bueno RBI single for a five-run lead.
In the second, the Dillas continued their onslaught as Adam De La Garza and Rodriguez led off with singles. Jones again stepped up and brought both base runners home with a two-RBI double. Jones would score on an error, while Cruz scored on an RBI triple from Warren, who would score on the second error of the inning for a 10-0 Dillas lead.
Douglas would single home De La Garza in the third inning, while Bueno and Jermel Lomack scored in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Rodriguez and an RBI fielder's choice by Jones for a 13-0 score.
Coastal Bend got their one run in the sixth inning as Ron Fenwick led off with a double and scored on an error to drop the deficit to 12 runs. Amarillo would add another run in the ninth as Douglas scored on an error for a 13-run lead. Dillas reliever Joseph Muro relieved Jessup in the eighth and retired all five batters he faced with four strikeouts and a groundout to seal the 14-1 Amarillo win.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 19-13, while the Thunder fall to 10-21. Tuesday, Amarillo will take on Coastal Bend for the third game of a four-game series at 7:05pm. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
