Dillas Lose Four-Run Lead in Loss

AMARILLO, TX - After the Amarillo Dillas blew an early lead, they attempted to scrape back against the San Angelo Colts pitching, but their bullpen allowed no baserunners on in a 6-5 defeat of Amarillo on Friday night in front of 3,074 at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa.

Dillas starter Kyle Allen (5-6) got the loss as he went an out short of six innings, gave up all Colts runs and allowed eight hits while striking out five. Colts starter Matt Duff (8-3) got the win as he went seven innings, gave up all Dillas runs though only one was earned and struck out five. San Angelo closer Chase Vacek earned his fourth save of the season in pitching a perfect ninth inning.

The Dillas took an early lead in the first inning as Jack Chapman doubled with the bases loaded to score three runners. In the second, Rick Owens Jr. doubled, went to third on an error and scored on a Brendon Hitchcock fielder's choice for a 4-0 lead.

San Angelo would come back in the fourth inning after Madison Edwards scored on an error and Eric Harryman hit a bases loaded double to score all baserunners to tie the game. Edwards singled in the fifth and scored on a Jason Crosland single to give the Colts a lead, while Andres Rodriguez singled in the sixth and scored on a Wyn Diggs groundout to move San Angelo up 6-4.

Amarillo would get one of the runs back in the seventh inning. Danny Bravo would triple and Gary Schneidmiller hit a sacrifice fly to center to score the run to cut the deficit to 6-5.

In the ninth, the Dillas came up against Vacek but were unable to get a baserunner on to fall to San Angelo 6-5.

With the loss, the Dillas fall to 13-11 on the second-half of the season and 39-35 overall. Saturday, the Dillas will take on the Colts for the second game of a three-game series at 7:05 pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50 pm on 1010 AM The Canyon and online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
