Laredo, TX - First half champion Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (38-34, 9-13) starter Angel Cordero (1-0) had five 1-2-3 innings in the seven complete he threw in a win over the the Laredo Broncos (30-42, 10-13) 5-3 tonight at Veterans Field.

Cordero ended up going seven and a third innings, allowing three runs on two hits with two walks, two hit batsmen and seven strikeouts.

The WhiteWings struck against Ramesis Rosa (0-1) in the top of the third when Teodoro Encarnacion led off with a double and Omar Bramasco sent him home with a two-out double to make it 1-0.

Cordero retired the first six hitters he faced, but hit Cameron McGuire, and one batter later, walked Ryan Kottke. Chris Judkins came up and hit a deep home run overthe right field wall, the first of his career, to make it 3-1.

The WhiteWings got one back in the fourth thanks to two more doubles. Ryan Fox led off with a two-bagger. Then, with two outs, Danilo Reynoso walked and Encarnacion hit his second double of the game to drive home Fox and make it 3-2.

The WhiteWings continued to pour it on with one out in the fifth, as Bub Bergstrom and Omar Bramasco walked. Miguel Peguero hit an infield single to load the bases. Fox drew a walk to force in a run. Luany Sanchez and Alejandro Martinez followed with RBI-singles to make it 5-3 and chase Rosa. Henry Lozado escaped from the jam without allowing any further damage.

Derek Bennett pitched a scoreless ninth for his 13th save.

The start of the game was delayed by an hour and twenty-three minutes due to a wet field from rain earlier in the day.

The WhiteWings travel to Edinburg for the first of four tomorrow night at 7:05. Joe Rogers (9-2) will pitch for the WhiteWings.
