Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas starting pitcher Ryan Mitchell and San Angelo Colts starter Ezequiel Astacio were in a tight pitching duel in Thursday's game, but they ended up not playing a factor as the Colts came back in the ninth to tie while the Dillas got a walkoff wild pitch to win 6-5 over the Colts in front of 2,018 fans at the Amarillo National Dilla Villa.

Dillas reliever Ramon Geronimo (4-1) got the win, despite allowing the two tying runs in the ninth inning. Colts reliever Brent Bukvich (0-1) got the loss, allowing the winning run to reach base in the ninth. Mitchell allowed only two earned runs in seven innings of work in the effort.

The Colts took another first inning lead as Ronnie Gaines reached second on an error and scored on a Jason Crosland RBI single. Amarillo responded with a big second inning as Stephen Douglas and Alberto Cruz led off with singles, while Rob Recuenco doubled to scored Douglas while Brian Bueno grounded out to score Cruz. Adam De La Garza followed with a walk and would score along with Recuenco on a Joaquin Rodriguez double for a 4-1 Dillas lead.

San Angelo scored a run in the fourth inning as Josh Collazo walked, went to third on a Landon Camp double and scored on a Trey Carter sacrifice fly for a 4-2 deficit.

Colts outfielder David Cardona hit a solo homerun in the sixth to bring the score to one-run, but double plays in the sixth and seventh innings kept the Dillas in the lead.

Amarillo reliever Tyler Pearson shut down the Colts in the eighth, while Daryl Jones scored a run on an error in the eighth for an insurance run. Geronimo stepped in for the ninth, allowed the bases loaded on three singles and allowed a Ronnie Gaines two-RBI single to tie the game 5-5.

In the ninth, De La Garza singled with two outs, followed by walks to Rodriguez and Carlos Figueroa to load the bases. Jones stepped up to reliever Matt Carter, but he didn't need to do a thing as De La Garza scored on a wild pitch for a 6-5 Amarillo win.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 36-24 while the Colts fall to 31-29. Friday, Amarillo will travel to Harlingen to take on the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings for the opening game of a five-game set at 7:05pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.whitewingsbaseball.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
