Spokane Shock News Release
The Spokane Shock announced today QB Brett Dietz has been assigned to its 2007 roster by the league office.
Last season, Dietz, 6'4 220, was named as the 2006 af2 Rookie of the Year as a member of the Louisville Fire. Current Head Coach Adam Shackleford was Dietz's Offensive Coordinator in Louisville.
"I wanted to put myself in the best possible situation," Dietz said. "With Shack, the ownership, the front office and the fans Spokane was an opportunity that I couldn't pass up."
Last season, Dietz led the league in passing efficiency (126.7), first and pass completion percentage (71.2), while averaging just over 263 passing yards per game as a member of the Fire. He finished the season with 4,214 yards (4th in the league), and 90 passing touchdowns (4th in the league) while leading the Fire to a playoff birth.
Dietz, who holds the af2's single-game touchdown record (12), led Louisville to a victory over the Shock last season 79-69 while racking up 8 touchdowns and 259 yards passing in the game.
Immediately after the season, Dietz was signed by the Arena Bowl Champion Chicago Rush and was released just before the start of their season.
"We're excited to have Brett here in Spokane," Shackleford said. "But he knows he's going to come in here and have to compete for the starting spot just like he did last year in Louisville."
Also joining the Shock's roster are OL/DL SirKeevin Hardiman, 6-1 260, and OL/DL Amos Lamb. Lamb, 6-5 321, appeared in the 2005 Cactus Bowl and spent time with the Washington Redskins before being cut at the end of training camp that same year. Hardiman, a University of Nebraska at Kearney alum, was selected second-team defense All-Rocky Mountain Conference his senior season in 2006.
Shackleford will begin training camp this weekend in preparation for home opener on March 31st at Northern Quest Casino Field at the Spokane Arena.
