Akron RubberDucks News Release

Akron's Yandy Diaz delivered a game-winning single in the bottom of the 11th inning Wednesday afternoon, lifting the RubberDucks to a thrilling, 4-3 win over the New Britain Rock Cats at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Trailing by two entering the bottom of the ninth, Akron rallied for a pair of runs to tie the score, 3-3, and send it to extra innings for the second straight day. Tyler Naquin grounded a base hit to right field to score Jeremy Lucas with the tying run in the ninth. In the 11th, Jordan Smith and Bryson Myles drew walks from New Britain reliever Nelson Gonzalez (1-1). A passed ball moved Smith to third with one out. The Cats brought in right-hander Jose Ortega to face Diaz, who singled sharply into left to win the game, 4-3. It was Diaz's 16th RBI, and extended his hitting streak to eight games.

Mound Presence

The win went to Jacob Lee (2-3), who tossed a scoreless inning in the top of the 11th. Cody Anderson started and worked six innings for the RubberDucks (17-22). He gave up two runs in the sixth on a double by Cats DH Tom Murphy, and left trailing, 2-1. Louis Head chipped in two scoreless innings in the ninth and 10th. The Rock Cats (27-11) wasted a fine effort by starting pitcher Matt Flemer, who held the Ducks to one run over six innings.
