Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
HARRISBURG, PA - Harrisburg starter Matthew Spann handcuffed the Binghamton offense over seven strong innings and the Senators compiled an 11-hit attack to hand the B-Mets a 10-1 loss on Wednesday morning at Metro Bank Park. The B-Mets rolled into a season-high four double plays and surrendered ten unanswered runs to match their largest margin of defeat of the season.
For the second straight game, Binghamton was the first team on the board. Jayce Boyd singled to open the second, took third on a Dustin Lawley single and crossed the plate when Aderlin Rodriguez rolled into a double play.
Harrisburg wasted little time erasing the deficit. With two outs, Gabriel Ynoa plunked his counterpart Spann with an 0-2 pitch to load the bases. Derrick Robinson cashed in by threading a bases-clearing double down the left-field line, giving the Senators a 3-1 lead.
Spann settled after and induced one groundball after another to frustrate the B-Mets offense. The southpaw used a double play to erase a one-out single in the third, coaxed another twin-killing to eliminate a leadoff single in the fifth and capped his start with one last double play to end the seventh. Spann collected 11 groundouts in his Double-A debut.
The Senators provided additional support for their starter with more two-out offense in the fifth. With the bases loaded on two walks and a single, Shawn Pleffner shot a two-run single up the middle.
Harrisburg added two more crooked numbers to the board against the B-Mets bullpen. Caleb Ramsey and Kevin Keyes each supplied RBI singles while Tony Renda chipped in with a sac fly against Julian Hilario in the sixth. Mario Lisson belted a pinch-hit two-run homer off Dario Alvarez in the seventh to cap the scoring.
Spann (1-0) scattered seven hits over seven innings to earn the victory in his Double-A debut. Ynoa (2-2) allowed five runs on six hits over five innings in the defeat.
The B-Mets (22-17) conclude their only visit to Harrisburg at 6:30 PM on Thursday night. RHP Luis Cessa toes the rubber for Binghamton. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
