Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- Elias Diaz went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs and Adrian Sampson tossed a quality start as the Indianapolis Indians notched a 6-5 victory and 2-1 series win over the Rochester Red Wings on Thursday afternoon at Victory Field.
The Tribe (17-11) concluded its homestand at 6-2 and has won 12 of its last 16 games since April 22.
Diaz followed a ground out in his first at-bat by hitting safely in each of his next three trips to the plate with two singles and a two-run double. He scored on a wild pitch in the third and a sacrifice fly in the fifth to contribute to five of the Indians' six runs on the afternoon.
With today's effort, the prized catching prospect is now batting .562 (9-for-16) over a season-high five-game hit streak.
Tribe starter Sampson (2-3) earned his second consecutive win with three runs on eight hits over six innings of work. He struck out four and is now tied for second in the league with 35 strikeouts this year.
