Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 8-2 on Saturday night in front of a past capacity crowd of 6,611 at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Ducks jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first against Patriots' starter Derell McCall. A sac fly off the bat of Matt Padgett and a two-run double by J.R. House did the damage. Freddie Thon's two-run homer to right in the third stretched the lead to 5-0.
Somerset responded with a two-run homer of their own in the fourth off the bat of Josh Pressley; however, Javier Colina's RBI single in the fourth and Kennard Jones' two-run double in the eighth blew the game open.
Mark Diapoules (3-1) was brilliant for the win, tossing seven innings, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out four. McCall (2-4) took the loss after surrendering six runs (three earned) on five hits in six innings of work.
Every Ducks batter reached base in the game. Jones, Colina, and Thon each led the way with two hits.
The Ducks and Patriots take the field again on Sunday evening for a doubleheader, with each game slated for seven innings. Game time for the opener is set for 5:05 PM, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 4:05, and game two will begin approximately 30 minutes after the completion of game one.
