El Paso Diablos News Release

El Paso, TX - The El Paso Diablos have traded fan favorite, and veteran hitter Jorge Alvarez to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains. The 2007 Player of the Year was leading the Diablos in average and RBI at the point of the trade.

In return for Alvarez the Diablos will get outfielder Jonathan Reynoso and cash considerations. Reynoso comes to El Paso hitting .285 with two home runs and 33 RBI. El Paso fans will remember Reynoso well, as he tied a league record for most doubles in a game against El Paso back on the 27th of July. Reynoso has been an everyday player for the Captains for much of the season, but due to an overloaded outfield in Shreveport, he became expendable. Prior to this year Reynoso spent 2007 and 2008 with Amarillo in the United League. He hit .331 with 16 home runs and 67 RBI in 2008 with Amarillo.

Alvarez has been with El Paso since 2006 and has been a main staple of their line-up since then. He has been a veteran of professional baseball since he was singled as a free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988. He will return to Shreveport where he played in 2003-2004.
