El Paso Diablos News Release

August 17, 2009 El Paso, TX - For the second straight day El Paso took an early 4-0 lead, but once again could not hold on as they fell 7-5 in 11 innings to the Fort Worth Cats at Cohen Stadium on Monday night. They drop their fifth straight game and now fall to just 15-21 in the second half.

El Paso did most of their scoring in the first inning when then jumped up quick on Cat's starter Lee Gwaltney. They plated four runs on four hits in the inning, with Jeff Vincent highlighting the inning with a two RBI triple. The Cats cut the lead to 4-1 in the third inning with a two out rally. El Paso got their four run lead back in the bottom of the inning but missed out on a big inning when they loaded up the bases with no one out. A double play brought in a run but also halted the big rally. That would be the final run of the night for El Paso who would manage just three hits the rest of the night. The Cats would score in pairs the rest of the game, pushing two across in the fourth inning, and then tied the game with a pair of home runs in the eighth inning. They would finally win the game in the 11th inning when two sacrifice flies brought in the winning runs.

El Paso was led by Juan Camacho who went 4-4 with an RBI. Arnoldo Ponce made his return to the line up by picking up two hits and scoring two runs. They got very little help out of the bottom of their line up as the bottom four in the line-up went a combined 2-20 on the night.

The Diablos got another quality start out of Clegg Snipes who went seven innings. Snipes allowed only three runs on eight hits before giving way to the bull pen in the eighth inning. Yury Santana came on in the eighth and allowed home runs to Pat O'Sullivan and Michael Bell to tie the game. Johnny Dillard (0-1) got the final two outs in the ninth inning, pitched a scoreless 10th, but was tagged with the loss by allowing the two winning runs in the 11th.
