
Cats win in extra innings, 7-5

EL PASO - The Fort Worth Cats scored two runs on two sacrifice flies in the 11th inning on Monday night as they downed El Paso 7-5 at Cohen Stadium.
In the 11th, Michael Bell and Ryan Patterson led off the inning with consecutive singles before Kelley Gulledge drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly to right. Later in the inning, Brian Fryer's sacrifice fly scored the Cats' seventh run of the game.
Fort Worth trailed by four runs twice in the game, yet rallied to win its second extra-inning game of the season.
In the opening frame, the first two batters reached against Cats' starter Lee Gwaltney on consecutive infield singles. One out later, Juan Camacho brought home the first run of the game with an RBI single to right. Right fielder Jeff Vincent then hit a two-run triple to right, bringing home two for a 3-0 lead. An RBI groundout brought home another run as the Diablos made it 4-0.
The Cats got on the board in the third inning as Cameron Blair doubled with two outs and scored on a Pat O'Sullivan run-scoring single. After the Diablos scored a run in the bottom of the third, the Cats got two in the fourth on an RBI single by Ryan Patterson and an run-scoring ground out by Isa Garcia.
Fort Worth climbed to within a run on a solo homer by O'Sullivan, his 14th of the season and tied the game later that inning on a solo shot by Bell, his 13th.
Scott Vander Weg (1-1) threw two scoreless innings out of the Cats bullpen to notch his first win of the season. Ryan Trytten also contributed two scoreless frames in relief for Fort Worth.
Johnny Dillard suffered his first loss of the season for El Paso as he permitted two runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings of work.
O'Sullivan, Bell and Patterson led the Cats' 13-hit attack with three hits each.
The three-game series continues on Tuesday night as left-hander Ryan Riddle takes the mound for the Cats. Game time is 8:05 p.m. CDT.
