June 15, 2010 El Paso, TX - The El Paso Diablos road a huge eight run third inning to a 14-7 win over the Pensacola Pelicans at Cohen Stadium on Tuesday night. Several hitters had big nights for El Paso who has now won 3 in a row.
The Pelicans put the Diablos in an early hole scoring one in the second and adding two more in the third. The Diablos came back in a big way come the bottom of the third. El Paso sent 13 men to the plate and scored eight runs on six hits. Eight different Diablos scored a run in the inning. Bryon Smith had a two RBI double in the inning while Mike Provencher also had a RBI double. Five different Diablos also had at least one RBI in the inning. Pensacola cut into the lead with two runs in the fifth but the Diablos responded with two runs of their own being brought in on a triple by Jonathan Reynoso. Hector Bernal added to the Diablos lead in the sixth when he came up big with a two RBI single to make the lead 12-5. After the Pelicans scored two in the seventh the Diablos would get one more run when Jeff Vincent and Reynoso had back to back doubles. El Paso added their final run of the night when Bernal came up with an eighth inning RBI double.
Hector Bernal led the 17 hit Diablos attack going 3-5 with a double and four RBI. Jonathan Reynoso broke out of his slump going 3-6 with three RBI and ended a home run short of the cycle. Reynoso now leads the league in triples with four on the season. Jeff Vincent enjoyed a big night going 4-4 with a double and an RBI while J.D. Reininger went 2-4 with two doubles. The Diablos had eight doubles in the game. Every player in the line-up had at least one hit.
Trevor Fox made his first start for the Diablos but only lasted four innings giving up four runs on seven hits. Lonnie Patterson led the charge out of the bull pen as he pitched a scoreless inning to pick up his first win in a Diablos uniform. Bryan Rembisz who shut out El Paso over seven innings in his first start didn't fare too well on this night. Rembisz (0-1) gave up ten runs on ten hits over five innings of work.
The Diablos will look to make it four straight wins on Wednesday night. D.J. Mattox (3-3, 4.79) takes the mound for the Diablos against Jared Gothreaux (3-2, 5.17). It is a Military Night as all Military personal get in free with a military ID. First pitch is slated for 7:05. The game can be heard online at www.diablos.com.
