Wingnuts Split Double Header

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Wichita Wingnuts dropped the nightcap of their double header 4-2 to the Sioux Falls Pheasants at Sioux Falls Stadium on Tuesday night.

Reggie Abercrombie hit a solo home run to left field in the fifth to break a 2-2 tie and proved to be the winning run. Left fielder Kevin Carby drove in an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth against Dustin Pease.

Abercrombie singled home Joe Anthonsen with the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Abercrombie stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Michael Sharp. A wild pitch thrown by Adam Cowart scored Abercrombie from third to make it 2-0.

Mario Delgado ripped a home run on a line drive over the right-center field wall leading off the top of the second to cut the lead in half.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the fourth, Michael Sharp drove in the tying run with an infield single to the left side. Mario Delgado, running from second to third, screened third baseman Trevor Lawhorn from the ball until the last second, resulting in the hit.

The Wingnuts threatened with two outs in the top of the seventh against closer Aaron Cotter, but the right-hander stranded the tying runs on base to earn his seventh save.

Adam Cowart allowed three earned runs on eight hits in five innings while taking the loss. Cowart walked two and struck out none. Chris Salberg earned the win, allowing two earned runs in six innings.

The Wingnuts and Pheasants wrap up their series on Wednesday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. Gabe Medina takes on right-hander Ryan Shaver.
