SIOUX FALLS - The Sioux Falls Pheasants split a doubleheader with the Wichita Wingnuts on Tuesday night, dropping game one, 4-3, and winning the second, 4-2. The first-place Pheasants moved their record to 21-10.

In game one, the Wingnuts broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Ryan Patterson followed by a run-scoring groundout from Josh Horn. Beau Torbert and the Pheasants replied with an RBI base hit in the bottom half of the inning, but the Pheasants left the bases loaded.

Wingnuts closer Justin Dowdy allowed a leadoff hit in the seventh but then shut down the Pheasants for his sixth save. Starter Nick Singleton (4-2) pitched effectively over six innings for the win. He allowed two runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Wingnuts newcomer Josh Workman led off the game with a home run and blasted a second solo shot in the third inning. The Pheasants answered with two solo home runs from Brandon Sing and Hunter Jobes in the fourth. Workman was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Pheasants starter Ben Moore (4-3) yielded four runs on ten hits over 5 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out two in the loss.

In game two Reggie Abercrombie launched a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning, the go-ahead run in a 2-2 tie. Kevin Carby's RBI single in the sixth gave the Pheasants insurance and a 4-2 lead. It was the third consecutive hit in the inning. Abercrombie also had an RBI single in the first inning and later scored on a wild pitch. He was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Chris Salberg (6-0) remained undefeated with his sixth win. He gave up just two runs on five hits in six innings. He did not walk anyone and struck out six. In the seventh, Aaron Cotter walked a batter and yielded a hit after two outs, but he induced Ryan Patterson to pop out to shortstop to end the game. Cotter notched his seventh save.

Adam Cowart (2-2) took the loss with three runs on eight hits allowed in five innings. He walked two and did not record a strikeout.

The Pheasants conclude the three-game series with the Wichita Wingnuts at 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at Sioux Falls Stadium. It's a special Super Splash Day with water activities geared for kids.
