Saints Trade for Catcher Wipke

ST. PAUL, MN (June 15, 2010) - Looking to add a little more punch to the line up the St. Paul Saints made a trade with the Grand Prairie AirHogs, receiving catcher Flint Wipke for a player to be named later and cash. The Saints also traded reliever Hunter Davis to the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League.

The 27-year-old Wipke is hitting .323 with four homers and 17 RBI in 25 games this season. In 93 at bats he's scored 11 runs, has 10 doubles, two triples with an on base percentage of .373 and a slugging percentage of .602. He is currently tied for third in the league in triples and fifth in extra base hits (16).

Wipke was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 38th round of the 2005 June Amateur Draft. He spent his entire career in the Angles organization and played at Triple-A in both 2008 and 2009.

The Saints also traded reliever Davis to the Rox for a player to be named later. Davis was 0-3 with a 5.54 ERA and six saves in 14 games. In 13.0 innings pitched he walked six and struck out five while opponents hit .278 against him.

The Saints roster stands at the league maximum 22, 10 pitchers and 12 position players.
