El Paso Diablos News Release
The Diablos dropped the second-half opener 9-6 against Shreveport on Tuesday night from Cohen Stadium.
The Sports crossed the dish in the top of the first inning. Wade Robinson reached on a one-out bouncing single up the middle. He moved to second base on a wild pitch and over to third on a Chad Gambill single. Justin Humprhies plated him on a fielder's choice hit to second base for the 1-0 advantage.
El Paso tied things up in the bottom of the second. Juan Camacho led off the inning with a single through the left side. Two batters later Matt Kent stroked a double off the right field wall moving Camacho to third. Jordan Belcher grounded out to second base scoring Camacho for the Diablos first run of the second half.
Shreveport took a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning. Chad Gambill blasted a three-run homer to deep right-center against Robbie Wachman to give the Sports the large cushion.
El Paso would fight back, scoring the next four runs of the contest. Matt Kent picked up an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. The Diablos had a three run bottom of the fifth. Jorge Alvarez and Juan Camacho had RBI singles as El Paso cut the deficit to 6-5.
The Sports would pull away with a three-run sixth inning. Wade Robinson had a run scoring single and was plated on a throwing error from Juan Camacho. Chad Gambill would eventually score on a fielders choice as Shreveport took a 9-5 lead.
El Paso would score their last run in the seventh inning. Jorge Alvarez smacked a single to the right side to lead things off. Walter Olmstead brought Alvarez home with a towering double to right. Bert Snow would not allow another base hit during the inning as El Paso stranded two runners on.
