Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans will be well represented in the 2007 American Association All-Star game on Tuesday, July 17 in Sioux Falls, SD. The south division managers and media representatives selected third baseman Trino Aguilar and outfielder Marcos Rodriguez as starters.

The game will pit the North Division All-Stars versus the South Division All-Stars. The All-Star managers selected the reserves and pitchers will be announced later this week.

"We are very proud and excited about this opportunity for the both of them," stated Pelicans Manager Mac Seibert. "I know they will represent the Pelicans organization well at their respective positions."

For Aguilar, this marks his third All-Star team selection and second All-Star game while playing with the Pelicans. He was named to both the mid-season and post-season All-Star team in 2006. In the first half of the season, Aguilar is hitting .287 with 8 home runs, 24 RBI, 51 hits, and 12 stolen bases. His eight round-trippers is third best in the league. The Pelicans selected Aguilar in 2004 from the league try-outs and has proven to be a steady constant for the Pelicans.

Marcos Rodriguez has been in the top-10 league hitting leaders for the entire season. He currently ranks 10th in the league, hitting .341 with 62 hits, 10 doubles, 27 runs scored, 2 home runs, and 25 RBI. Rodriguez began the season at first base but recently moved to the outfield after the Pelicans signed Bo Williams. This is Rodriguez's first season with the Pelicans.

Aguilar and Rodriguez mark the Pelicans 14th and 15th players to be named to the league All-Star team since 2004.
