Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY - The Albany Devils capped off their third game in three days with a 6-4 setback against the Providence Bruins on Sunday afternoon at the Times Union Center. Backed by Jordan Knackstedt's natural hat trick, the Bruins were able to erase a three goal deficit early in the second period and reel off the final five goals of the game. Albany went 1-2 during the weekend, averaging 3.66 goals per game, and now stand at 6-5-0-0 on the year. The Bruins improve to 5-5-1-1.

"We've talked about it so many times this year where the momentum shifts and, for whatever reason, the last couple of games we have been unable to get it back and stop the bleeding," said head coach Rich Kowalsky.

"[Providence] got a little life and they came back and activated their defensemen. Rochester did the same thing last night."

The Devils got off to a hot start as they jumped out to an early 2-0 first period lead.

Nick Palmieri scored the first goal of the day when David McIntyre carried the puck from the left side of the net and sent it across the crease to Palmieri, who one-timed the pass past the blocker of goaltender Michael Hutchinson.

The home team doubled their lead about ten minutes later with a power-play tally. The play was initiated byTyler Eckford's shot from the point. Hutchinson made the initial save and stopped the following rebound try by Nathan Perkovich. But, he was unable to stop Vladimir Zharkov who picked up the second rebound try and roofed it into the top of the Bruins net.

The Bruins cut their deficit in half just 26 seconds into the middle frame when Joe Colborne scored a power-play goal. But, the Devils responded just 1:31 later with back-to-back goals. Perkovich scored and Adam Henriqueadded another on the power play 1:33 later after Perkovich's goal to make 4-1. This prompted Providence Head Coach Rob Murray to replace Hutchinson with Nolan Schaefer in hopes of gaining back some momentum.

Murray's tactical move paid off as his team closed out the period with three straight goals to tie the game. Colborne scored his second power-play goal of the night on a one-timer from the top of the right circle to cut the lead to two at 6:48 of the second.

Knackstedt made it a one goal game just over two minutes later at 8:55 of the second and added another on the power-play at 17:59. He completed the hat trick with the game-winner at 4:46 of the third.

Jamie Arniel added an insurance goal with a little less than nine minutes left in the game.

"The fact that we play like this at home and we're solid on the road makes it even more frustrating," Kowalsky said. "This is not the hockey we're teaching or trying to play here."

This marked the seventh time this season the Devils headed into the third period with the score tied. They are 4-3 in those games.

The Devils return to the ice on Wednesday, Nov. 10 when they welcome the Norfolk Admirals for a 7p.m. start.
