TONIGHT: The Barons conclude a set of 3 games in 3 days with their second and final meeting with the Toronto Marlies (Toronto Maple Leafs). The Marlies topped the Barons 5-2 on Oct. 23 at Ricoh Coliseum. This is the third of 13 sets of 3 games in 3 days/nights for the Barons. They have won the previous 2 finales of such sets, 8-2 at Houston Oct. 17 and 3-2 in overtime at Hamilton Oct. 24. Despite a 4-2 loss to Houston last night that snapped a 5-game winning streak, OKC continues to share the lead in the West Division with San Antonio with 17 points.
BARONS HAVE COMPANY: The Barons' 5-game winning streak wasn't the only lengthy stretch to be snapped last night. Syracuse downed Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 4-3 to snap the Penguins' season-opening 9-game winning streak. The longest winning streaks to date in the AHL:
Team Wins Dates
W-B/Scranton 9 10/09-11/05
Peoria 7 10/10-23
San Antonio 6 10/17-29
Hamilton 5 10/27- present
Oklahoma City 5 10/24-11/05
PENALTY KILL STILL NO. 1: OKC's penalty killing allowed 1 Houston power play goal in 6 chances last night, but the Barons lead the AHL in overall percentage at 92.8. The Barons have allowed 5 power play goals in 69 times short, with 3 of those tallies by Houston. Since allowing 2 Houston power play goals on opening night Oct. 9, OKC has not allowed more than 1 power play goal in a game since, killing 59 of 62 opponents' power plays (95.2%) in the past 13 games.
JACQUES GETS CONDITIONED: Left winger J.F. Jacques is with the Barons on a conditioning assignment. Jacques played his first game of the year at any level on Friday, but as scheduled did not play last night. Jacques has not played in an NHL game since Feb. 10. A back injury sidelined him for the remainder of last season and required surgery in March.
LEADERS: Martin Gerber leads AHL goalies in wins (7) and minutes (673), while second in saves (290). Gerber, who has won 5 straight starts, is tied for 12th in the AHL in goals-against average at 2.32. Shawn Belle leads all AHL defensemen in points with 12. Belle also tops the AHL in assists among defenseman with 11. Rookie Jeff Petry is tied for eighth in the league among defensemen with 9 points (2G, 7A).
ODDS AND ENDS: Linus Omark has points in 9 of the last 11 games, totaling all 12 of his points in that span...he leads the club with 3 game-winning goals...Liam Reddox has goals in 6 of his last 10 (6 goals) and points in 8 of the past 11 games (9 points)...Alex Plante and Ben Ondrus each scored their first Barons' goals last night...OKC has allowed a goal within 5:35 of the opening faceoff in 4 straight games, but recovered to win the first 3 of those...the Barons continue to share the league lead with 14 games played...OKC's next road game is the day after Thanksgiving at Cleveland against Lake Erie...this is a season-high 8-game homestand.
