BINGHAMTON - The Binghamton Devils surrendered a two-goal lead and the Rochester Americans tallied a power-play goal late in regulation for a 3-2 comeback win over the Devils at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday night.
Binghamton got a good bounce to take a 1-0 lead early in the game. Colton White forced a turnover below the goal line and fed the puck out to the front of the net where John Quenneville put home his 13th of the year. The puck was stopped by goaltender Adam Wilcox, however, banked off the defender and in just 4:04 into the game. Assists were given to Blake Pietila and White and the Devils took the one-goal advantage into the intermission.
Eric Tangradi gave the Devils a two-goal lead just 20 seconds into the second period. Tangradi took a Michael McLeod pass and ripped a snap shot by the left arm of Wilcox for his sixth of the year from McLeod and Nathan Bastian.
Rochester responded while shorthanded to get within one. Yannick Vielleux took the puck from Brandon Gignac and beat Cory Schneider over his left shoulder for his third of the season, unassisted, with 5:50 left in the second.
With 2:05 left in the period, Tyler Randell deflected in a Brendan Guhle shot from the left point to tie the game at two. The goal was Randell's second of the year from Guhle and Eric Cornel and the game was tied to start the third period.
In the final period, Rochester was given a power play with 1:46 left in the game and cashed in for the eventual win. Victor Olofsson lifted the puck over the left shoulder of Schneider from the right wing circle for the 3-2 lead with 61 seconds remaining.
With the Devils' net empty, Pietila rang the puck off the cross bar and Binghamton was unable to tie the game late, falling 3-2. Schneider stopped 31 of 34 shots in the loss.
