Wolves' Fast Start Doesn't Last

Rockford, Illinois -- The Chicago Wolves scored early but allowed three second-period goals, falling 5-2 to the Rockford IceHogs in Illinois Lottery Cup action on Friday night.
Forwards Daniel Carr and Gage Quinney each scored for Chicago (24-15-5-1) while goaltender Zach Fucale saved all 10 shots he faced in relief.
Alexandre Fortin scored two goals while Henri Jokiharju, William Pelletier and Victor Ejdsell each scored for Rockford (20-19-3-5). Goaltender Kevin Lankinen (4-5-3) made 28 saves.
Carr opened the scoring at the 3:13 mark of the first period, walking the puck out from the left corner before turning and shooting over Lankinen's glove.
Rockford tied up the game late in the first when Jokiharju sent a slap shot from the top of the circle into traffic and past starting Wolves netminder Oscar Dansk (14-7-3) at 12:30.
The IceHogs came out of the intermission and scored three straight to lead 4-1. Fortin tapped in a pass at 2:54 before Pelletier scored in a similar fashion at 6:19. Ejdsell added an unassisted goal at 11:50 and prompted the Wolves to bring Fucale in to relieve Dansk, who ended his night with 14 saves.
Quinney broke the Rockford streak at 19:42 of the second period, collecting his initial shot that was blocked and sending it over Lankinen's blocker on the Wolves power play.
The Wolves held Rockford off for most of the third period, but Fortin tallied his second goal on the empty net 19:41 into the third period to cap the 5-2 win.
