February 20, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release

Trenton, NJ - Dan Charleston's goal 4:58 into the third period broke a 2-2 and elevated the Trenton Devils to a 4-2 victory over the Wheeling Nailers at Sun National Bank Center.

Myles Stoesz and Ryan Hayes also scored for Trenton, and Shane Connelly made 22 saves on 24 shots to earn the win. With the win, Trenton wins on consecutive nights for the first time this season, while the Devils inch to within six points of a playoff spot by improving their record to 21-28-1-3.

The loss extends Wheeling's season-high losing streak to six games, as the Nailers drop to 29-21-0-3. Peter Delmas allowed three goals on 29 shots and lost to the Devils for the first time in his career, while Kelly Miller and Jason DeSantis supplied the Nailers' goals.

After Trenton and Wheeling played a scoreless 11:17 to start the game, Kelly Miller scored to put Wheeling ahead, 1-0, scoring from the left-wing circle off a cross-ice-feed from Chris Minella

The score remained 1-0 Nailers until Myles Stoesz scored his first goal of the season to tie the game, 1-1, 4:43 into the second period. Matt Lombardi got the primary assist by sliding the puck across the crease to a hard-working Stoesz, who beat Delmas just inside the post. Kory Nagy also got a helper, his 11th of the season.

However, Stoesz was flagged for a high-sticking penalty just 3:10 after his goal knotted the score, and it took Wheeling just 16 seconds with a man-advantage to strike. Jason DeSantis was credited with the goal, after he had been sent down from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins earlier in the day.

The Nailers' lead would last for only 2:17 though, as Ryan Hayes scored his 18th goal of the season while Trenton was on a five-on-three power play. Ryan Ginand extended his point streak to six straight games by earning the primary assist, while Dan Charleston increased his point streak to four games by earning a helper on the play.

Charleston wasn't done scoring though, and his one-timer goal off of a hard feed from Martin Nolet at 4:48 of the third period proved to be the game-winning goal.

Jeremy Akeson scored for the third straight game by adding an empty-net goal with a second left in regulation, sealing Trenton's win, and making the score 4-2. Matt Lombardi got the primary assist and Dan Charleston the secondary helper to complete a three-point, first-star night.

The Devils try for their third straight Wednesday, traveling to Sovereign Center to face off against the first place Reading Royals. The Devils next play at Sun National Bank Center Friday and Saturday against the Gwinnett Gladiators.
