Albany Devils News Release

LOWELL, Mass. - The Lowell Devils and defenseman Tyler Eckford both continued their hot hands as of late in a 5-3 win versus the Providence Bruins on Saturday at the Tsongas Arena. Eckford recorded three points for the second straight game as the Devils won their fifth in a row. Lowell used a 3-for-5 night on the power play to jump ahead and later fend off Providence as they threatened to tie the score in the final frame.

Nathan Perkovich helped the Devils take a 1-0 lead only 51 seconds after the opening faceoff when he beat starter Dany Sabourin with a slapshot from the near circle.

Lowell then struck twice on the man-advantage later in the frame to build a three-goal cushion. Patrick Davis tucked a close range shot inside the far post at 7:27 before Olivier Magnan sent his first goal of the season sailing past Sabourin with 3:00 left in the first. Kevin Regan would start the second period in relief of Sabourin, who stopped 8-of-11 over twenty minutes of play.

The Bruins would also find their groove on the man-advantage as they tried to chip away at the Devils' lead. Jamie Arniel potted the only goal of the second as he got behind the defense to knock in Matt Marquardt's feed from the side wall and make the score 3-1.

Providence then pulled within one of Lowell only 40 seconds into third on Mikko Lehtonen's 5-on-4 goal Less than a minute later, the Devils would answer right back on the power play. Perkovich got his second of the night when he tipped Eckford's point shot over the shoulder of Regan.

Eckford added a third assist when Ben Walter put the Devils back up by three, 5-2, at 6:46 of the third. The three-point night gave Eckford ten points (2g-8a) in his last four games.

Jeff Penner was given credit for the Bruins' third power play goal as his shot from the point ricocheted off of Magnan's stick and past the glove of Mike McKenna.

McKenna made 26 saves in winning for third time in his last four games. Regan suffered the loss while turning aside 20-of-22 shots over the final two periods.
