Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY -- Joe Whitney scored a pair of goals and Eric Gelinas, Jacob Josefson and Matt Anderson also had multi-point nights in a 4-1 rout of the Northeast Division-leading Springfield Falcons. The win, which came in front of 5,301 fans at Times Union Center Saturday, moved the Devils to 3-1-0-1 against the Falcons and 25-20-1-20 overall. Springfield goes to 34-16-4-3.
In goal, Scott Wedgewood made 23 saves on 24 shots in his AHL debut. Only David Savard's five-on-three goal found its way behind the rookie netminder.
Offensively, Whitney registered his 19th and 20th goals of the season and Gelinas had a goal and an assist. Anderson and Josefson registered a pair of assists, while Mike Sislo also scored.
Whitney got the Devils in front, forcing a turnover in the offensive zone and eventually getting the puck back to tuck home a backhanded attempt at 3:24 of the first. Springfield responded with Savard's tally at 14:06 of the second.
Sislo gave the Devils the last lead they would need at 3:25 of the third, redirecting a Dan Kelly point shot. Whitney added his second by beating Springfield netminder Paul Dainton on the power-play at 6:14. Gelinas put the game out of reach with a slapshot from the point at 7:55.
Game Notes - With his team-leading 20th tally and 38th point, Joe Whitney now has eight goals and three assists during the last 10 games and goals in three straight outings. Whitney has netted the Devils first goal six times this season.
