Pirates Host Penguins on Hall of Fame Night

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates will look to get back on the winning track at home tonight when they face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Cumberland County Civic Center for the first time this season. Puck drop is set for 7 PM as the Pirates try to hold on to the 5 spot in the Eastern Conference. During the first intermission of tonight's game, the Pirates will welcome Jeff Nelson as the 17th member of the Portland Pirates Hall of Fame, presented by Unum.

The Pirates dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the Manchester Monarchs at the Civic Center last night in VIP Cup Series action, presented by VIP Parts, Tires & Service. The Pirates jumped out to a 3 goals lead with tallies from Chris Brown, Darian Dziurzynski, and Jordan Szwarz, but the Monarchs scored 4 unanswered to get the victory. Stefan Legein scored the game winner for the Monarchs in the overtime frame to tie the VIP Cup Series at 5 games apiece.

The Penguins are coming off a 2-0 loss to the Providence Bruins to start a season long 7 game road trip. Jeff Zatkoff stopped 23 of 25 shots for the Penguins in the loss. The Penguins are currently in 7th in the Eastern Conference with 63 points on the season. Biddeford native Brian Dumoulin will make his first trip to Maine as a professional for the Penguins tonight.

The last meeting between the Pirates and Penguins was on December 8th at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza and ended in a shootout, with the Pirates winning by a 4-3 score. The Pirates scored three straight goals in the second and third periods to tie the game and scored twice in the shootout to get the victory. Chris Brown, Jordan Martinook, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the Pirates goals in regulation, with Rob Klinkhammer getting the shootout winner. Both games this season between the Penguins and the Pirates have gone to shootouts.

Tonight's game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live. Tonight's game will also be televised on Time Warner Cable TV Channel 9. The pregame show starts at 6:40 with Jeff Mannix.
