Albany Devils News Release
WORCESTER, Mass. - In an exact reversal of their meeting three days ago, the Lowell Devils were defeated in overtime, 4-3, by the Worcester Sharks on Wednesday at the DCU Center.
After Michael Swift's overtime goal on Sunday allowed Lowell to pull a point ahead into fourth place in the Atlantic Division, the Devils and Sharks found themselves again in a dead heat in the standings after tonight's rematch.
With Worcester up, 3-2, as the third period got underway, the Devils finally broke through to tie the game with 4:25 left in regulation when Nicklas Bergfors banked a pass in front that Swift snuck inside the far post. Bergfors, who also assisted on Swift's game-winner on Sunday, extended his point streak to seven games.
In the extra session, the Sharks got their revenge as a scramble in front of the Devils' net sent goalie Jeff Frazee and the puck across the goal line. Mike Moore was credited with the deciding tally, coming at 2:15 of overtime.
The Devils took a 1-0 lead at 14:36 of the first when Tyler Eckford released a shot from the blueline and Patrick Davis popped out from the behind the net to bounce in the rebound.
Worcester would knot the contest with 1:21 left until the intermission as Ryan Vesce's reverse pass found Jamie McGinn in front for a one-timer past an unsuspecting Frazee.
Vesce then helped the Sharks get their first go-ahead goal, firing a pass through the center of the Lowell zone that was redirected from the left wing by a streaking Cory Larose at 5:40 of the second.
Lowell evened things up five minutes later after Sharks goalie Thomas Greiss denied Ryan Murphy's stuff shot, but couldn't get back in position to stop Alexander Vasyunov from scoring his 10th of the seaon.
The Sharks again picked up a goal right before the break as Lukas Kaspar gave Worcester the 3-2 edge with 1:29 left in the second period. Vesce gathered his third assist of the game on the play.
The Lowell Devils travel on Friday, February 27 to take on the Springfield Falcons at 7:30 p.m. Listen to the game live on 980AM-WCAP or ahllive.com. For more information about individual tickets and group packages, call (978) 458-PUCK (7825) or log on to www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
