Detroit City FC Set for Cross-Conference Fixture with Sacramento Republic
June 10, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Detroit City FC News Release
DETROIT, Michigan - The Detroit City Football Club returns home to Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck to take on Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday, June 11. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. with streaming available via ESPN+ and airing locally on TV20 Detroit.
Detroit City is coming off a 1-1 draw on the road against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds - the first time all season a side has taken points at Highmark Stadium from the Riverhounds. Le Rouge was able to come back from an early one-goal deficit when midfielder Maxi Rodriguez tallied his seventh of the season (in all competitions) courtesy of a pair of great passes from left back Deklan Wynne and midfielder Michael Bryant.
With the draw, Detroit City boasts a 7-4-2 record, good for third in the USL Championship's Eastern Conference and within three points of Memphis 901 in first. City's two losses is the fewest by any club in the Eastern Conference and one of just three sides in the league with only two losses entering week 14 of the campaign.
Goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher continues to be excellent for Le Rouge, finishing with five saves at Pittsburgh including two incredible timely stops that allowed Detroit City to earn the draw. Steinwascher has 36 saves on the season - tied for fourth among all keepers.
Wynne has been very impressive over the last two matches, averaging a 7.95 player rating over the 180 minutes. Included in this 180 minutes are two assists, one in the opening goal against Atlanta United 2 last home match on May 21 and the assist on Rodriguez' equalizer in Pittsburgh. Wynne also clocked in at second on the squad in total distance covered in Pittsburgh, covering 7.3 miles and clocking the most distance at top speed.
Sacramento Republic currently stands at 5-3-4 and is coming off a massive 1-0 win at home against the West's top side, San Antonio FC. However, Sacramento has struggled on the road, going 1-2-3 thus far with a -3 goal differential.
SRFC is the lone USL Championship team remaining in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, defeating the MLS' San Jose Earthquakes, 2-0, to advance to the Quarterfinals where LA Galaxy awaits on June 21.
Sacramento enters the weekend as one of the top defensive sides in the USL Championship, giving up just 11 goals in 12 outings - bettered by only San Antonio and New Mexico at 10 and nine, respectively. DCFC has surrendered 12 tallies - best in the East along with Louisville City and Birmingham Legion.
Saturday's visitors have taken 170 shots so far this season - while getting shots off hasn't been a problem, scoring on shots has been. Sacramento has scored just 13 goals this season, the sixth-lowest total in the league and have a conversion rate of just 10% - one of the worst in the league.
Gates open at 6:30 pm on Saturday and tickets are available at tickets.detcityfc.com.
Detroit City will remain home next Saturday, June 18, as DCFC hosts the El Paso Locomotive in the USL Championship's first-ever regular season fixture to air on ESPN.
