Rio Grande Valley FC Toros News Release
OAKLAND, California -Rio Grande Valley FC (6-8-0) heads to the West coast to face Oakland Roots SC (4-4-7). The second ever meeting between the sides will take place at Laney Stadium on Saturday, June 11 at 9:00 p.m. CST. The action will be live nationally on ESPN+ .
HEAD-TO-HEAD (2022 Figures)
Rio Grande Valley FC (14 Games) - 20 goals, 53 shots on target. | 22 goals conceded, 2 clean sheets
Oakland Roots SC (15 Games) - 22 goals, 53 shots on target. | 21 goals conceded, 3 clean sheets
Oakland have gone unbeaten in their last five matches with a 0-3-2 record. They look to use that momentum to dismantle Rio Grande on the road, who own a 3-3-0 road record this season.
The last meeting between the sides went RGV FC's way at home by locking in their season opener by a score of 1-0 on March 12.
Look at the possession game being a factor once more for the Toros as they dominated their last match in that category by 61% despite the loss. They drilled the need to shut down the minimal holes and mistakes on the defensive third to swing matches in a positive manner to remain in contention for a playoff run.
With the addition of three USL Academy players to the roster in the past 10 days, RGV built their depth at midfielder and goalkeeper, though young, the new signees add the needed spark to the squad on the internal competitive end.
The offense needs to show up in this match to convincingly win after a no show at home which left everyone looking for more from Hernandez, Lopez and Ruiz up front.
