Detroit City FC News Release
DETROIT, Michigan - The Detroit City Football Club is back in action on Wednesday, May 18, at The Miami FC. Kickoff from Riccardo Silva Stadium in University Park, Florida, is set for 7 pm ET on ESPN+.
Detroit City (6-2-2) enters the matchup third in the Eastern Conference while Miami sits seventh with a mark of 4-2-4.
Le Rouge got back in the win column over the weekend after falling in penalties to Louisville City in the round of 32 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, defeating Loudoun United, 4-2, at Keyworth Stadium. DCFC scored three goals in the final 10 minutes of the opening half.
Midfielder Maxi Rodriguez earned his third Team of the Week plaudit in the effort last Saturday, netting his team-high fifth goal in all competitions this season to add to an industrious display in midfield where he won 12 of 17 duels and 4 of 6 tackles while recording 13 recoveries and three interceptions. Rodriguez currently sits No. 3 in Fotmob's Top-100 players in the USL Championship.
Due in part to City's injury woes, midfielder Michael Bryant began seeing more consistent minutes and has now made starts as an attacking mid, right back and centerback this season. Bryant has scored two goals already in May and is tied for the team lead with three in league fixtures. He's averaging 1.12 goals per 90 minutes of play.
Detroit City FC is 6-1-0 while scoring first this season in all competitions - 5-0-0 in league play. Since turning professional as a Club in 2020, Detroit City remains unbeaten (36-2-0) while scoring first.
The Miami FC has been one of the better defensive sides in the league through week 10, limiting opponents to just nine goals - tied with Le Rouge for sixth in the USL Championship. Miami has had its woes though in the attacking third, netting just nine goals. Miami has been a disciplined side, committing just 123 fouls (seventh in the league) and has been shown just 19 yellow cards - trailing just Detroit City and Atlanta United 2. Miami has lost three of its last five and is 2-1-2 at home this season.
Joshua Perez, Kyle Murphy and Pierre da Silva lead the team with two goals apiece. Florian Valot has the side's highest Fotmob rating at 7.54. Da Silva - along with his two goals - has two assists to pace Miami FC while also creating a team-best 12 chances. On the defensive end of the pitch, Lamar Walker has 2.8 tackles per match while Aedan Stanley has 2.1 interceptions per 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Connor Sparrow boasts a 80.8 save percentage while posting four clean sheets.
