New Mexico United News Release
New Mexico United and New Mexico 811 are thrilled to announce the third round of additions to the U-23 roster in the team's history. Defender Larsen Rogers, goalkeeper Anthony Munoz, and forward Johnny Baros join the inaugural roster to bring the number of announced players to nine ahead of the inaugural season, with many more announcements yet to come.
"Larsen, Anthony and Johhny represent a special group on this inaugural roster," said United Academy and U-23 Head Coach Luke Sanford. "They are the first players that we have brought in from outside the New Mexico United ecosystem, having never played in our Academy program. I am very excited to work with these three young men, and can't wait to see what they bring to our club."
Rogers is a sophomore defender at Dixie State University, and a graduate of Volcano Vista High School. He is also the brother of United Acadmey standout Taylor Rogers. In his first two years at Dixie State, Rogers has played over 2,100 minutes and has been in the starting XI twenty-five times. At Volcano Vista, he earned first-team all-state honors, was a first-team all-district selection, and was named the District Player of the Year in 2016-2017.
Munoz is a goalkeeper at Grand Canyon University, and a graduate of La Cueva High School. He is the all-time leader at La Cueva in shutouts (26), single-season shutouts (13), and minutes played (4,805). He was a four-time district champion, and two-time metro champion. He was an all-region and all-American selection in 2017. Munoz was also a four-time state champion with Rio Rapids. He played in 14 matches last season at Grand Canyon, making 49 saves.
Baros is a forward at Park University, a graduate of Valley High School, and a transfer from Eastern New Mexico University. He is the brother of Academy standout Josh Baros. He played in 14 matches in his first season with the Buccaneers, after earning a spot on the Dean's List and Academic Honor Rolls at Eastern. At Valley, he was coached by United's own Orlando Ramirez, making first team all-district and all-state teams, and was named the district player of the year.
United U-23 will compete in the Mountain Division in the 2022 season. The Mountain Division schedule will be released soon on USL League Two's website and social accounts.
