Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, Ind. - Despite a six-run inning in the bottom of the fifth frame, the Gary SouthShore RailCats (11-12) fell to the Sioux City Explorers (14-8) by a 10-7 final in the series opener at the Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana.
After falling behind 5-1 in the fifth inning, Gary SouthShore stormed back with a vengeance to take a 7-5 leave after a clinic at the dish led to ten batters in the inning.
While the RailCats clung to a two-run lead for the next few innings, Sioux City had other plans. Upon the exit from starter Trevor Lubking, who went 6.1 innings of work with six runs on eight hits while striking out four, Greg Duncan's third outing in a RailCats jersey took a bad turn.
Prior to recording and out, Duncan had allowed five runs to cross home in the seventh, relinquishing a 10-7 lead back to Sioux City. Lubking was dealt a no decision in the loss while Explorer's starter Patrick Ledet had a no decision in the win. Ledet went 4.1 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
All ten runs scored for Sioux City were by the first five batters in the lineup as eight of nine recorded a hit in the victory. Both Jared Walker and Nate Samson each had 3-for-4 days at the dish while Samson drove in four and Walker plated two.
In the home dugout, Michael Woodworth recorded a triple in his second straight multi-hit effort for his second start of the season while Alec Olund went 2-for-3 with a double while reaching safely on three plate appearances.
Max Kuhns received the win for Sioux City while Matt Pobereyko earned a league-leading seventh save as he faced three and retired three.
Game two between the Gary SouthShore RailCats and Sioux City Explorers is scheduled for tomorrow, June 12 at 4:10 p.m. at the Steel Yard.
