
Despite Late Surge Blue Falls to 87ers

OKLAHOMA CITY, Feb. 24, 2018 - The Oklahoma City Blue (20-20) was edged by the Delaware 87ers (12-27) by a score of 96-93 on the second night of a back-to-back.
With just over two minutes remaining in the game, the Blue scored eight unanswered points to trim the lead to one at 94-93. With 2.9 seconds to go, the Blue was unable to convert, and free throws by Christian Wood sealed the game for the 87ers. Wood finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
"I thought we fought hard," said Head Coach Mark Daigneault. "We played a good defensive game, we just had a tough night offensively. I thought we handled the time and score situations really well, just came up a basket short."
Oklahoma City Thunder assignee Dakari Johnson finished the game with 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists while two-way player PJ Dozier tallied 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Fellow two-way player Daniel Hamilton had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
The game was tightly contested from the jump, featuring nine lead changes in the first quarter alone, with the 87ers clinging to a 24-22 lead at the close of the quarter. The Blue turned up the defense in the second quarter, holding the 87ers to 6-of-16 shooting, and were able to pull ahead 49-46 going into the half.
The Blue held Delaware to 38.8% shooting from the field and outscored them in the paint 58-40. Michael Cobbins came off the bench to score 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
The Blue return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 28 against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The game will be held at 11 a.m. inside INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
