Spokane Chiefs News Release

The Spokane Chiefs have named 20-year-old forward Jevon Desautels its captain for the 2004-05 season. Desautels is entering his fifth season in a Spokane Chiefs uniform.

"Jevon is a player that has earned the respect of other players in the league, in our dressing room and of the coaching staff. He sets an example on and off the ice for all the players to follow," Chiefs Head Coach Al Conroy said.

Fellow 20-year-olds Scott Lynch and Gary Gladue along with Chad Klassen and Jeff Lynch have been named alternate captains.

"We have a very good leadership core. All of our captains are character guys who have established themselves in the locker room and should be a good supporting cast for Jevon," Conroy stated.

Desautels has played in 232 career games, all in a Chiefs sweater, putting him 19th on the franchise's all-time list. The Alida, SK native recorded a career high nine goals and 27 points in an injury shortened season last year that saw him play 52 games. Desautels had 118 penalty minutes in 2003-04 moving him into 15th place on the franchise's all-time list with 532 career minutes.

Originally a second round pick in the 1999 WHL Bantam Draft, Desautels served as an alternate captain last season.

The Chiefs will begin the 2004-05 season on the road when they travel to Cranbrook, BC to take on the Kootenay Ice this Saturday. Spokane will open the home portion of the schedule on Saturday, October 2nd in the second half of the home-and-home series with Kootenay. Tickets for all Chiefs home games are available at the Chiefs office by calling (509) 535-PUCK.
