Derek Jeter to Rehab in Trenton

(Trenton, NJ) The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter will begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Thunder beginning Wednesday as Trenton hosts the Binghamton Mets at 7:05 PM. The assignment is conditional that Jeter's rehab continues to progress in Tampa, FL today.

The Waterfront Park gates will be opened earlier during these games. Thunder season ticket holders will be able to enter the ballpark 2 ½ hours prior to game time (4:30 PM, Wed.-Sat., 11:00 AM, Sun.). The general public will be allowed to enter 2 hours prior (5:00 PM, Wed.- Sat., 11:30 AM, Sun.).
Additional parking will be available at the Sovereign Bank Arena Lot #4, along Route 129. Fans will be able to take a FREE Shuttle from Lot #4 down to Waterfront Park.
Jeter, a five-time American League All-Star, suffered a separated shoulder on March 31st during the Yankees Season Opener in Toronto against the Blue Jays. Jeter sustained the injury in a collision at third base with Blue Jays catcher Ken Huckaby, who was trying to cover the base after Eric Hinske had charged toward the mound for a batted ball. Huckaby came down on Jeter's shoulder while wearing full catcher's gear, driving his legs into Jeter's shoulder. Jeter has been working out at the Yankees' complex in Tampa, FL.
The Yankees shortstop hit .297 with 18 HR and 75 RBI. Entering 2003, he had collected the most hits of any Major League player over the last five years (1,005) leading players like Vladimir Guerrero, Todd Helton and Sammy Sosa. Jeter was a 1st Round Pick (6th Overall) of the Yankees in the 1992 June Draft out of Kalamazoo (IN) Central High School. He earned the 1996 Rookie of the Year Award after hitting .314 with 10 HR and 78 RBI. Jeter surpassed 200 hits in a year during three consecutive seasons- 1998 (203), 1999 (219) and 2001 (201).
Jeter has led the Yankees to the post-season in every full season in which he has played for New York. He has collecting the most post-season hits (101) in Major League history, surpassing players such as David Justice, Bernie Williams, Pete Rose and Paul O'Neill.
Jeter would become the sixth Major League player to do a rehab stint in Trenton. Bret Saberhagen, Tom Gordon, Bryce Florie, Bill Hasselman and John Valentin have spent time on a rehabilitation assignment with the Thunder during the franchise's first nine seasons.
