Depth Of Defensive Line Strengthens With Reggie Howard

November 20, 2020 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - Massachusetts Pirates News Release

WORCESTER, MA. - The Massachusetts Pirates have signed defensive lineman Reggie Howard to their 2021 roster. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Howard last played for the XFL's Los Angeles Wildcats earlier this calendar year. He spoke with MassPiratesFootball.com about continuing his path as a professional football player.

"It's a blessing. I'm ready to join the Pirates and I'm hungry to win a championship next season."

Pirates president and general manager Jawad Yatim is not shy when it comes to sharing the team's focus for next season.

"What I had seen on film was a kid who was explosive and nimble footed, and is active with his hands as well. He's an impressive athlete for an interior defensive lineman. Very disruptive, especially in the run game and plays with enthusiasm. Our defensive line is going to be tough to block for a full 60 minutes, and clearly that's a point of emphasis for us this off-season. Glad to have Reggie on board."

Prior to playing in the XFL, Howard spent time with the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in April 2019 and was released in August 2019.

Howard played his final two seasons of college football at the University of Toledo (2017-18). In his senior season, Howard led his team in tackles for loss with 15. His 4 sacks were good for second-best on the team. As a junior, he played in all 14 games for the Rockets.

The 6'3", 305 pound defensive lineman played at Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas during his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Howard becomes the team's sixth defensive lineman and twentieth player overall signed so far this offseason. The Pirates have signed more defensive lineman than any other position up to this point.
