Birmingham Barons News Release
WBC World Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder is scheduled to throw out the first pitch of Saturday's July 4 game between the Barons and Tennessee Smokies at Regions Field. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native is set to take the field at approximately 5:40 p.m., with the game's official start time at 6 p.m.
The "Bronze Bomber" is 34-0 in his professional boxing career, most recently recording his 33rd knockout-win June 13 against Eric Molina at UAB's Bartow Arena in his first WBC World Heavyweight title defense. Coincidentally, just a few blocks down from Bartow Arena, Regions Field posted its sixth sellout of 2015 the same night as the sold-out fight.
OTHER NOTES OF INTEREST
- Tickets for Saturday's game are extremely limited. Only general admission seating remains for the July 4 contest.
- The Barons will wear special Stars & Stripes hats on Independence Day. Proceeds from hat sales in the Barons Sports Depot and game-worn hat auction will benefit Welcome Back Veterans - a program helping returning soldiers suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. All hat purchases will benefit the foundation.
