Jackson Generals News Release
Jackson, Tenn. - Mother Nature was the winner on Thursday night as Jackson and Mobile's contest was suspended due to rain with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mobile took a 2-1 lead with a two-run shot from Zach Borenstein in the top of the frame, but rain put a halt to the contest with one out and two on in the bottom of the sixth. The two squads will complete the suspended contest at 5:00 pm CT Friday before their regularly scheduled game on Friday night, which will start no earlier than 7:05 pm CT.
The contest was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when Jabari Henry doubled off the right field wall with one out. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Henry scored on an RBI single by Tyler Marlette off of A.J. Schugel to put Jackson up 1-0.
The game would have gone final had that score held, but Mobile rallied with two outs in the sixth to take the lead. Former General Jack Reinheimer reached on an infield single with two outs, knocking Moises Hernandez out of the contest. Hernandez tied a season-high with 5.2 innings pitched and his six strikeouts were the most in any game this season for the 31-year-old righty.
Brian Moran, who hadn't allowed a run in five outings this season, relieved Hernandez. All-Star Zach Borenstein turned the game around with a two-run blast off of the Jackson lefty to put the BayBears on top 2-1.
The Generals attempted a comeback I the bottom of the sixth, with D.J. Peterson and Jordy Lara singling off of A.J. Schugel to put men on the corners. Former General Dominic Leone was set to take over on the mound for Robby Hammock, but the tarp soon came onto the field.
Jackson and Mobile will finish off the suspended contest Friday at 5:00 pm CT. The regularly scheduled nine-inning contest will still be played no earlier than 7:05 pm CT.
The team celebrates Independence Day on July 3 with postgame fireworks presented by Community Bank, performances by The Fur Circus and Pamela K. Ward Band in addition to special patriotic jerseys that will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the 30th SAB Association!
