TRENTON, NJ - The Binghamton Mets matched a season-high with 15 hits, including five from Matt den Dekker, and held off a late rally to defeat the Trenton Thunder 9-7 Friday night at Waterfront Park. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for Binghamton in series openers.

Den Dekker led the offensive charge with a five-hit attack, including two doubles. It was the second five-hit game of his career, having done the feat as a Savannah Sand Gnat on August 24, 2010. Juan Lagares was the last B-Met to pick up a five-hitter, racking up five hits against the Reading Phillies on July 24, 2011. Den Dekker raised his batting average to .336, second-highest in the Eastern League.

For the fourth straight game, the B-Mets grabbed the lead in the first inning. Reese Havens, hitting leadoff for the first time this season, started with a walk and den Dekker singled against starter Adam Miller. Jerfy Marte brought both home by blasting a three-run homer down the left field line. Marte has collected an RBI extra-base hit in the first inning in each of his last four games.

Trenton scratched out a run without the aid of a hit in the second. Luke Murton reached to start the inning after getting plunked by B-Mets starter Gonzalez Germen. He moved to second on a fielder's choice, took third on a fly out and scored when Binghamton failed to turn a potential inning-ending double play.

Germen posted two more scoreless innings before Addison Maruszak ripped a solo home run to lead off the fifth. It was the final run the righty allowed. Germen retired nine of the final ten he faced to cap his seven-inning performance. He surrendered two runs on five hits and struck out six while walking none.

After scoring three times against Miller in the first, the B-Mets did not touch home again until the seventh. With runners at the corners, den Dekker ripped an RBI double to deep left center field. After an intentional walk to Marte, Eric Campbell smacked a two-run single to left, ending Miller's night. Juan Lagares greeted reliever Michael Dubee with a run-scoring single through the hole on the left side.

The B-Mets stretched their lead to seven with two more runs in the eighth inning. Marte and Campbell provided back-to-back run-scoring singles against Dubee, giving Binghamton a 9-2 advantage.

Binghamton needed all the insurance to hold off a Thunder comeback. Ryan Fraser made his Double-A debut, taking over for Germen in the eighth. The righty immediately fell into trouble. He issued a walk and hit a batter before surrendering an RBI groundout and giving up a run-scoring single. Luke Murton made it a four-run inning by launching a two-run homer to left field.

Fraser was pulled after Damon Sublett singled. Robert Carson entered and walked Maruszak to bring the tying run to the plate, but struck out Yadil Mujica to end the threat.

In the ninth, the Thunder picked up where they left off. Abraham Almonte scorched a leadoff double to left center and Jose Pirela followed with a single. After Zoilo Almonte brought in a run with a groundout, Carson shut the door. The lefty struck out Melky Mesa and induced Murton to pop out to second to end the game.

Germen (2-4) snapped a three-game losing streak with the win, while Miller (0-1) suffered his first loss as a member of the Thunder. Carson (3) racked up the four-out save.

The B-Mets (28-29) continue their only series in Trenton this season Saturday night at 7:05 PM. LHP Darin Gorski takes the ball for Binghamton against LHP Shaeffer Hall. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show for the day's action begins at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
