Delmarva's Offense Silenced by Cannon Ballers in Game Five Defeat

KANNAPOLIS, NC: The Delmarva Shorebirds couldn't get the bats going on Saturday as they were handily defeated by the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (15-16), 7-1.

After a scoreless first two innings, the Cannon Ballers broke the stalemate in the third with a fielder's choice error that allowed Matt Hogan to score. Caden Connor brought home a pair moments later with an opposite-field double to put Delmarva behind 3-0.

After being no-hit through the first five innings, Stiven Acevedo supplied Delmarva's first run and hit on a solo home run, pulling the Shorebirds within two at 3-1.

Kannapolis answered quickly in the bottom half as they scored twice on a pair of run-scoring singles by Ryan Galanie and Eddie Park to put the Cannon Ballers ahead 5-1.

They put the game away in the eighth with a two-run single by Albertson Asigen to extend the lead to 7-1.

Delmarva's offense was quiet all night against Kannapolis pitching as they finished the night with just one hit against Lucas Gordon, Tommy Vail, and Nick Altermatt and would fall by a final of 7-1 on Saturday night.

Both starting pitchers factored into the final decision as Lucas Gordon (1-1) earned the win for Kannapolis with Trey Gibson (0-3) taking the loss for Delmarva.

The series concludes on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. as Ty Weatherly gets the ball for the Shorebirds versus Jake Bockenstedt for the Cannon Ballers.
