PREVIEW: The Delmarva Shorebirds wrap up their road trip against the Greensboro Grasshoppers after spending a week on the road in Lakewood, New Jersey and Greensboro, North Carolina. The Grasshoppers are the Class A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Since opening the season with a 4-6 mark and losing two of the first three series on the campaign, the Shorebirds have a series record of 7-1-1 over their last nine sets, going 22-12 over that stretch. Greensboro snapped an eight game winning streak against Delmarva last night to even the series at 1-1. This is the 10th meeting of 22 scheduled contests between Delmarva and Greensboro this season. The Shorebirds lead the season series, 6-3.
TODAY'S OPPONENT: Right-hander Chris Paddack makes his first start of the season for Greensboro this afternoon. Paddack was drafted out of Cedar Park High School in Cedar Park, Texas in the 8th round of the 2015 MLB First Year Player Draft. he went 4-3 with a 2.18 ERA in the Gulf Coast League over 11 appearances (seven starts) last season.
LAST GAME QUICK HITS: Delmarva got back on the right track after a series-opening loss on Monday with a dominating pitching performance on Tuesday night. Lefty Brian Gonzalez stymied Greensboro's eight game winning streak by scattering one run on two hits over six dominant innings. Gonzalez fanned a career-high ten hitters and walked only one. Ryan Meisinger backed him up with three terrific innings of relief to earn his third save of the season. Meisinger struck out five and walked one in three scoreless frames. Yermin Mercedes blasted a 3-run shot in the third (his team-leading fourth homer) and DJ Stewart added a solo home run in the fourth.
