Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (8-6) ended a two-game losing skid against the Fredericksburg Nationals (6-8) with a convincing, 8-0 win on Saturday night.

The Shorebirds were off to the races in the first inning as they capitalized on three walks by Fredericksburg starting pitcher, Jarlin Susana as Noelberth Romero hit a grand slam over the wall in left field to give Delmarva a 4-0 advantage after an inning.

They'd use the long ball again in the bottom of the second as Elio Prado hit his seventh homer of the season, his solo shot upped the lead to 5-0.

Moises Chace paced the night for the pitching staff as he dealt four shutout innings as the starter, striking out seven with just three hits allowed.

Luis Gonzalez put another tally on the board in the sixth with an RBI double to score Rolphy Cruz from second base, making it a 6-0 game.

Delmarva wasn't done hitting home runs as Samuel Basallo connected for his 11th blast of the season with a 405-foot blast over the left-center wall to extend the Delmarva edge to 7-0 after seven innings.

The lead would grow by one more in the eighth on a bases-loaded walk to Trendon Craig to make it an 8-0 game.

Jared Beck would take the 'Birds to the finish line by tossing four shutout innings of his own to finish the game, and an 8-0 shutout win for Delmarva.

The win would go to Jared Beck (2-3) in relief with Fredericksburg starter Jarlin Susana (0-5) taking the loss for the Nationals.

The Shorebirds matched their season-high with three home runs to spark their offense, with Noelberth Romero providing the first-inning grand slam to put Delmarva ahead early. He'd finish with two hits for his fourth multi-hit game of the series. Samuel Basallo and Elio Prado both reached base three times as each hit a solo home run and walked twice.

Delmarva will now go for a series split against the Fred Nats on Sunday evening with Juan De Los Santos drawing the start against Riley Cornelio for the Nationals. First pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m.
