Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - A two-out, walk-off single by Kellin Deglan in the ninth inning gave the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, a 4-3 victory against the Corpus Christi Hooks to begin a doubleheader Thursday evening at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Deglan's walk-off single was set up by a one-out triple from Joe Jackson against Hooks reliever Brendan McCurry (2-4). McCurry bounced back by getting Alberto Triunfel to ground out, but couldn't retire Deglan and suffered the loss.
Up 3-2 after a three-run third, the Riders (37-27) allowed the tying run in the sixth but held on for the win. Corpus Christi's Conrad Gregor hit an RBI single off Emerson Martinez, but the Frisco righty worked out of a bases-loaded jam to keep the score 3-3.
The Riders fell behind early with lefty Yohander Mendez on the mound. Chase McDonald got the scoring started for the Hooks (42-23) with a solo home run in the second inning, his 11th of the season and fourth against Frisco. Nick Tanielu added a one-run single in the third after two Hooks batters reached base via walk with one out. Mendez lasted five innings and took a no decision, allowing five hits, walking three and striking out four.
A three-run third inning gave the Riders their first lead of the game. Preston Beck beat out an infield single to plate Deglan from third base, and Ryan Cordell followed with a towering two-run home run to left field. That all came against Corpus Christi left-hander Evan Grills, who gave up eight hits and struck out five over seven innings.
Game two of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin around 8:20 p.m. Fans can follow the action live on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App.
Thursday's doubleheader features multiple promotions, including Bark in the Park and Thirsty Thursday. The first 500 dog owners will receive a free Riders Dog Rope Frisbee, and fans can enjoy beers and Dr Pepper products at a discount from 6-8 p.m. Tickets are available online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
