Midland RockHounds News Release

Mixing baseball and thunderstorms is usually a dicey, time-consuming proposition. Not so Wednesday night at Security Bank Ballpark.

The RockHounds had just extended their lead to 5-0 with a pair of runs in the home half of the fifth, when the word came that a storm was headed for Rocky Town. Game delayed ... tarp on ... thunderstorm hits (and hits hard). Thirty minutes (or so) later? Good night.

The RockHounds opened the scoring with a two-out RBI single from Tyler Marincov in the first (see "Stat of the Day" below).

Franklin Barreto's two-run single in the fourth built the lead to 3-0 and RBIs from Marincov (triple) and Matt Chapman (double) capped the scoring, literally, minutes before Mother Nature said "enough," and the storm hit.

Corey Walter and Jake Sanchez combined on the RockHounds' fifth shutout of the season. Walter lowered his ERA to 2.77 with four scoreless innings in the start and Sanchez earned the win with a 1-2-3 fifth inning (two strikeouts).

The RockHounds

... are 31-33 (15-14 at Security Bank Ballpark and 16-19 on the road) ... have won four of six ... won the opener of a 13-game, 12-day homestand ... are now 6-6 versus San Antonio (2-5 at Nelson Wolff Stadium and 4-1 at Security Bank Ballpark) ... are 19-21 versus the South.

... continue their 12-day stay at Security Bank Ballpark with the first of two "Thirsty Thursdays" (June 16 & 23) on tap (pun intended). Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. A reminder that Friday's match-up with San Antonio is now a doubleheader, as the clubs make up a game rained out in San Antonio (May 15). Friday is also Kids Jersey Night - - the first 1,000 kids will receive a free RockHounds jersey with their paid admission. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with the first pitch of game one at 5:00 p.m. (the clubs will play two, seven-inning games).

Kibbles & Bits

STAT of the DAY Tyler Marincov continues to impress in his first Double-A season. With two out in the first inning (and on a 1-2 pitch), his first-inning single brought in Viosergy Rosa. With that hit, Marincov is now 13-for-28 (.464, 17 RBI) with runners in scoring position and is even more impressive with RISP and two out, hitting an even .500 (8-for-16, six RBI) in those situations.

CONGRATS, CHRIS! After two-and-a-half seasons ... 67 starts ... 25 regular season wins (tied for fourth in franchise history) ... two more in the playoffs ... and with two Texas League championship rings ... Chris Jensen has, at last, been given his ticket to the next level. On the team bus coming home from Frisco, he was given the news that his next start would be with the Pacific Coast League Nashville Sounds on Thursday night. He has paid his dues ... and then some. Congrats and good luck, Chris!

- James Naile has joined the RockHounds and will make his first start with club (replacing Chris Jensen) on Thursday night. Oakland's 20th round selection in 2015 (out of the University of Alabama at Birmingham), Naile has spent the majority of this season with Beloit of the (Single-A) Midwest League, going 2-6, with a 3.35 ERA for the Snappers. He has also made two starts for Nashville (1-1, 5.73) in 2016.

- Viosergy Rosa (2-for-2, double, walk, two runs) saw a five-game hit streak go by the boards on Tuesday in Frisco, a game in which he went 0-for-1 with three walks. In his last seven games, Vio is 10-for-20 (.500), plus seven walks for a .630 on-base percentage. In his last 16 games, the 'Hounds first baseman / DH is 19-for-54 (.352) with 11 walks for a .462 OBP (he ranks third in the Texas League overall with a .391 OBP).
