July 6, 2021 - Eastern League (EL)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release

The Fightins took game one of the series against the Harrisburg Senators 4-1, thanks to an impressive start from righty Jack Perkins. Perkins finished his evening with one earned run on six hits and three strikeouts.

After both sides went scoreless through the first two innings, the R-Phils cracked through in the bottom of the third as Jorge Boifacio picked up an RBI single to bring in Daniel Brito.

Later in the inning, Madison Stokes and Josh Stephen walked to load the bases with two away, and McCarthy Tatum delivered with an RBI single to make it 2-0 after three.

The Senators turned to their pitcher Cade Cavalli to cut the lead in half, as he hit a double off the wall in straight away center to make it 2-1.

With the tying run on second, Cole Freeman nearly found enough room between shortstop and left field, but Stephen turned on the jets and laid out to rob Freeman of the RBI single.

Perkins finished his solid day by escaping trouble in his final inning of work, as he worked out of the bases loaded jam without allowing the run, handing off the lead to the bullpen.

First out of the pen was Aneuryz Zabala, who made quick work of Harrisburg with his electric fastball.

The reigning player of the week Brito stayed hot at the dish in the bottom of the seventh, as he sent a liner over the wall in right to make it a 3-1 ballgame.

Then, R-Phils homerun leader Bonifacio played the speed game, as he picked up his first stolen base of the season which allowed Stephen to bring him in on the next pitch with an RBI double.

Kyle Dohy came in to pitch in the eighth, and utilized a double play to get through the inning unscathed.

Brian Marconi looked to notch his sixth save of the season, and was able to do so with ease, giving the R-Phils the win to start the series 4-1.
