NORWICH, CT- The Defenders fell to the Sea Dogs 6-4 Sunday afternoon in front of 4,050 fans but did manage to claim another series 2-1.

Portland plated two runs in the fifth inning off an RBI double by 1B-Lars Anderson and an RBI single by LF-Aaron Bates to salvage their lone victory in the series.

The Sea Dogs took a big bite in the first inning touching up Defenders starter, RHP-Daryl Maday for three runs. A leadoff walk to CF-Bubba Bell followed by a 2B-Ryan Khoury bunt single and another single by Anderson load the bases. Bates drove in one with a base knock then 3B-Jorge Jimenez sliced one inside the third base bag score two more and Portland had a 3-0 lead.

Portland almost blew the game open in the eighth inning but the Defenders got out of a bases loaded jam when Pill slowed down a hard liner by Anderson and quickly recovered to flip it to a covering Mike Musgrave to keep the Sea Dog lead at two. In the home half of the eighth Connecticut had its best opportunity to tie the game. Back to back singles by Crawford and Pill then a sac bunt by LF-Bobby Felmy put the representing tying run in scoring position.
