New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats announced this morning that Wilson Ramos - their highly-regarded 21-year-old Catcher - has been restored to the Eastern League club's active roster after a 21-day-stint on the team's Disabled List. Ranked by Baseball America/2009 as the Minnesota Twins' 3rd Best Prospect, the 6'0"/206-pound resident of Valencia, VZ went on the shelf May 9th when he broke the tip of a finger on his glove hand while performing behind the plate in a game in Portland, ME.
A 2008 Florida State League All-Star, Ramos was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted Free Agent in July of 2004. He had appeared in 24 games for the 2009 Rock Cats before being injured. In his first experience at the Double-A level, Ramos has thus far posted a .269 BA with 4 Doubles, 1 Home Run, and 10 RBI. He will be eligible to play in this afternoon's 1:35 PM home game between the Rock Cats and visiting Binghamton.
New Britain had been playing one man short after last Friday's promotion of INF Steve Tolleson to Triple-A Rochester. Accordingly, no other move was necessary to make room on the Rock Cats' active roster for Ramos' return.
